The Food Waste Challenge
The Food Waste Challenge is a social entrepreneurship programme on food waste on 10 February. With the Food Waste Challenge, FSE Network and EU FUSIONS aim to launch innovative enterprises that turn food waste into an opportunity. During the event, students and young professionals are challenged to think out of the box and create the solutions of tomorrow to food waste.
Participants will go through following phases:
- Learning journey with Taste Before You Waste to recover food waste.
- Meeting and learning from food surplus entrepreneurs.
- Idea development. Ideation and elaboration of the idea by using the Business Model Canvas.
- Pitching during a networking drink (open to non-participants). Teams pitch their idea in front of a jury of experts. The three best ideas are chosen.
- Meeting policy makers. The winners will present their idea at the FUSIONS RPM on 11 February.
Food Waste: an opportunity
Food waste is a pressing problem. Social business is a solution that is gaining momentum in all layers of society. The Food Waste Challenge helps participants develop social entrepreneurial solutions to food waste in order to deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals. After all, decreasing food waste is the most efficient way to reduce greenhouse gases (SDG 13), an excellent way to fight hunger (SDG 2) and in the same time it is an opportunity to create jobs through entrepreneurship (SDG 8).

The Food Waste Challenge Amsterdam is organized in collaboration with EU FUSIONS.
On 11 February, the day after the Food Waste Challenge, there will the FUSIONS RPM in Amsterdam which focuses around retailers.
